How Low to Go?
"My hair is so washed out and has no dimension, should I get
lowlights?"
What Are Lowlights?
Lowlights are the same technique as highlights, using the shade
that is the darkest color or in the hair or deeper.
Lowlights are not some magical technique that will restore the
movement and dimension of lifeless over highlighted hair. What's
more your base color (or the hair that is not highlighted), should
be carefully preserved by your colorist. Random excessive highlighting
can wipe out your base tone leaving you washed out and dried up
in no time.
What to Do?
There are very few techniques in which lowlights are effective.
Most important they should always be formulated with the shade of
your base color in your hair, unless you seek a "creative"
outcome.
Also lowlights must be warm in tone (golden) never ashy. Too dark
or too ashy makes grey looking hair. They should never be too thin
either or they will blend into the rest of your color.
As hair color will not stick to previous lightened hair we recommend
a "no ammonia no peroxide" formula be requested. (Trust
us they wash out regardless.)
Another suggestion ...
Try a softer warmer (more golden) all over toner, this can add
shine and glow to lifeless hair and create the look of movement.
Good Luck,
