Salon Mör Brings New Color to Chicago

You want to be a blonde. You want glossy, honey-colored tresses with amber undertones and sun-kissed flaxen highlights. So how come your hair is a dried-out yellow in the front and brassy orange in the back?

Coloring hair is a delicate process," says Gina King, founder of Salon Mör, the first color-corrective design salon in Chicago. "It requires a lot of knowledge and years of training to come up with the right formula and technique for every client."

Salon Mör, located at 40 E. Oak Street, specializes in color correction and rejuvenation hair treatments.

"Everyday I see people walking around the streets of Chicago with the wrong color, faded color, fried or over highlighted hair," she says.

"All permanent hair dyes have a chemical composition that can stress and dry out the best of hair if not applied properly," explains King, who has trained with regional and international color directors such as world-renowned colorist Annie Humphries. "A good corrective colorist can examine the condition of your hair and plot a course to recovery."

Salon Mör's design team, which includes many of Chicago's hair industry trendsetters, is departmentalized, which means each stylist sticks to his or her specialty, whether it is cut, style, or color. Clients get an expert for every service.

All hair services begin with a consultation to determine the best approach for the customer's needs, style and way of life. "Stylists then restore the hair that has been depleted, flattened, over-colored or over-processed and creates a new, natural look for the client" says King.

The salon also offers nail services, which include manicures and pedicures, as well as makeup lessons and applications (by appointment only) provided by MAC.

The salon atmosphere is serene, lit by specially designed beaded lighting fixtures and lampshades by Saher. It is surrounded with antique-like furnishings, brick walls and hardwood floors, which are complemented by armoires used to store hairstyling tools and products. The salon also displays its hair products in a large cherry wood hutch.

Prices for salon services range from $55 to $130 for a haircut; $55 to $220 for hair coloring, based on the stylist. Prices vary for services such as relaxing, texturizing, permanents and corrective coloring. Nail services range from $18 to $65.

Salon Mör is one of eight salons in Chicago to sell Privé Professional Products, a premium hair care collection by Laurent Dufourg. In addition, the salon sells shampoo and conditioner products by Pureology and an herbal sealer by Schwarzkopf.

Salon Mör, located in the Gold Coast area at 49 E. Oak Street, employs Chicago's leading specialists in hair cutting, styling and color correction and rejuvenating hair treatments. Salon Mör was recently credited as "The salon to watch" by Chicago Magazine.
